Industry: Manufacturing
Project Title: Microsoft Infrastructure Upgrade/GoodLink Installation
Area: Microsoft Server Solutions/Good Technology
Overview:
PVC was struggling to integrate new business applications into an antiquated Microsoft Server System Infrastructure. Additionally, business executives needed Outlook functionality delivered to various types of handheld devices for anytime, anywhere access of email, calendar, and business contacts. Although most of this functionality was available on the legacy infrastructure, the delivery of business applications was unreliable and required excessive IT support services to maintain.
The Need:
PVC Container mobile workers and business executives required a way to access business critical applications while outside of the corporate office, on laptops and handheld devices. Their current server and messaging platform was insufficient because it could not support the large PVC user group, provide secure access to the corporate network, and enable rich attachment viewing of Microsoft Word, Excel and PDF documents. PVC’s IT staff was focusing the majority of their time on help desk calls which were causing IT initiatives to be pushed back.
- Increased worker mobility through anytime, anywhere access to business critical applications
- Expanded messaging collaboration, manageability, development, performance and security
- Messaging compatibility with PDAs such as Palm Treo and Pocket PC Devices
- Exchange Server 2003 combined with Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 provides mobile, remote, and desktop email access with state of the art security, reliability, and manageability.
-
Good Technology’s GoodLink running on Windows Pocket PC
and Palm hand held devices provides full Outlook-like
functionality, expanded security with GoodLink Compliance
Manager, and world-wide coverage with Global Connect
As a result, business applications such as Cognos, Exchange Server 2003, Baan, and Oracle run flawlessly across the enterprise. Business executives can now access documents and Outlook from laptops and PDAs such as the Palm Treo as well as Pocket PC Devices. IT resources are now focused on core business applications and new projects instead of help desk and troubleshooting exercises.
